Terry Johnsons Flamingos was born out of a simple yet thought-provoking question asked by our friend, Rachel, during a casual dinner gathering in 2014. As parents and educators, we were discussing the challenges of finding the right after-school programs for our kids, when Rachel turned to us and asked, “How do I know which tutor is the best fit for my child?” We realized that we didn’t have a satisfactory answer, and that sparked a chain reaction of conversations, brainstorming sessions, and research that ultimately led to the creation of Terry Johnsons Flamingos in 2015.

Our group of friends, all passionate about education and committed to making a difference, came together to address the gap in the after-school enrichment landscape. We noticed that most tutoring services relied on lengthy forms and generic assessments to match students with tutors. We wanted to take a more personalized approach, one that would truly understand each child’s unique needs and learning style. After months of development, we launched our signature 15-minute diagnostic, which has become the cornerstone of our tutoring program. This innovative approach allows us to match each K-8 student with a tutor who is tailored to their individual requirements, ensuring a more effective and enjoyable learning experience.
